I inherited a Bernina sewing machine from my grandma Hall and I love it so very much. It's tough and will sew through anything. A couple weeks ago I took it into the local sew shop to get her a tune-up. The machine man told me that it is worth $1500 and is a great machine... yay for me. As I went to pay, the man walked out from the back and showed me a photo of his son and then asked... "Are you single", uhhhh awkward, last thing I expected at a sewing repair shop. Hahaha! Although I turned down his offer he did an excellent job on my machine and she now runs super smooth, I'm loving it.

That's what I want for Christmas!! Not a Bernina, I'm too new at sewing for that. You're going to have to have sewing lessons when you come into town. Hayley R and I are wanting to learn...
P.s. The other part of the story is hilarious! Were you wearing your ring?
Wow, yeah, you'd think you'd be safe from being hit on in a sewing shop! At least he was thinking of his son and not himself.
A few years ago I bought four Berninas: three 1630s and one 1530 and resold two of the 1630s on eBay for a profit to offset the cost of the 1530 and the 1630 I kept. So I guess I'm still interested in the prices of used Berninas, and just did an eBay search. Recently completed auctions for Bernina 930s went from about $600 up to nearly $1000 for ones in really good condition with all their accessories. I don't doubt your dealer could get up to $1500 for one in your local economy, but if you sold it yourself it looks like $1000 is the best you could get.
Not that you should sell it--it's a classic, quality machine in high demand. I love my 1530.
my mom has one too...those things are solid! i can't believe she has had her's for so long...and you have your grandma's?! wow. love the side story, funny yet flattering.
Funny Chels!!
We should all hope to be so lucky!
i love my old bernina too! it will take on anything.
