This year we are starting a new tradition with Kyle's family. It was the Brinton's who made me want to join in on the fun cause they do this every year. On Christmas Eve we eat breakfast for dinner (this is something we always do) but we have decided to have a huge family sleepover at nana's (Kyle's mom) house so we can all wake up together and watch all the neices and nephews open their presents on Christmas. And it's something we will look forward to doing every year! P.S. Did you know that we live in San Diego. So if you guys ever head south of the border give us a call and we can meet up. It is so nice to see familiar faces!

We love to all get in our new pajamas and enjoy the kids acting out the Christmas story! All growing up, My Mom had this advent calendar where if we memorized a scripture, we got a treat for the day! That was fun as kids!

cute idea chels. my favorite holiday tradition is picking a family that is extra special and doing the 12 days of christmas and leaving tiny gifts at their door. i always think it helps me get into the christmas spirit by spreading cheer, in secret!

As you know, we love to build a BIG fire in mom and dad's fireplace, eat munchies and open one gift which is always new pajamas. We have to put them on once we get them and play your ultimate favorite game "Scrabble" until we are all really tired. Dad doesn't like to play so instead he lays on the couch whiling attending to the little kids. Can't wait to do this with you in a few weeks!!!

I absolutely love all these christmas posts!! you are just so creative!! it's really keeping me motivated to focus on christmas. one of my favorite traditions was when we were little, all the kids would sleep in one room, sometimes in one bed!!! and watch christmas movies on christmas eve. it just soo fun to share our excitement the night before! i miss that... we all a bit too big now, could you picture shawn, orin, matt, and my other teenage siblings all in one bed!! hilarious...

okay, so this is an old family christmas tradition. Remember when the hall extended family would get together in gma's basement and sing christmas songs forever. We were the only family not musically inclined so we'd sit and wait and wait for it to be over so we could open presents. Then we'd all go on a hay ride. fun times, I do miss.

I think the best tradition Trent & I have is to kick off the Christmas season we get all cozy in robes (the big fluffy, old married couple kind) and slippers and make hot chocolate, turn on the fire and watch a good Christmas flick. Then after that Trent loves his robe so much he tries to wear it everywhere. Yes, I mean to friends houses for movies, or Sunday dinners. It is great. But robes, slippers, cocoa and fireplaces are great for the season!

I love playing crokinole with my family and friends. We usually play it a lot throughout the holiday season (Christmas and New Year's), but not so often during the rest of the year for some reason.

Every christmas eve our family gets together and does a skit. We used to do it live and now we do it on video. Every year this is Kit's most dreaded day, when we have to film the video. He hates it, but I love it and when it's done everyone else loves it too. My kids will watch those movies over and over.
I hope I win.

Every year on Christmas Eve-Eve (the 23rd) we watch old family home videos from when we were kids, to dating, to now having kids ourselves.
We make hot chocolate, turn on the fire and cozy up.
It's fun to look back, laugh, and remember the good, the bad and the ugly (and by ugly I mean jr. high)

Oh, this was so fun to read everyones comments! One that we do now with the kids is on Christmas Eve we ride our bikes around the neighborhood and check out the lights. When we get back to the house have hot coco, watch a Christmas movie or play games. Then they sleep in the same bed until Christmas morning!
I also love our Book Advent we do. We wrap 24 books (Christmas, secular & religious) and put them under the tree. Then each day the kids unwrap one to read just before bed. I think it makes them feel like Christmas lasts all month. It's fun and we just use books we bring out just at Christmas or Library.
Fun times!

When we are at my mom's house on Christmas Eve we play dominoes into the wee hours with a fire crackling, hot cocoa, and Christmas music until we can't keep our eyes open anymore. I think it's time to start a Christmas tradition this year with our kids. We have the advent calendar , and that's about it...

I truly believed Santa was real when i was young. My favorite tradition was to leave out our favorite powdered donattes, a cup of hot coco and write a little note to Santa. The first thing I'd do Christmas morning was run over to find all the donates eaten just crumbs left and cocoa sipped. Also Santa always wrote us a note back. I can still feel how magical that was! We still leave out the donates just in case Santa shows up…
